Aunque nació en Brasil de sexo masculino, posteriormente se operó en Francia, convirtiéndose en la primera mujer transexual de la República Francesa. Es dermatóloga de profesión, sin embargo, desde hace varios años su principal ocupación es el activismo político a favor de la población trans, desde el momento en que a causa de su nueva identidad, fue negada de seguir ejerciendo como profesional. Creó en 1993 el Grupo de Prevención y Acción por la salud y el trabajo de transexuales (PASTT), para la integración de los transexuales a la sociedad. Desde PASTT ha trabajado por la prevención del VIH/SIDA en la población transexual, una labor realizada en París, principalmente con imigrantes ilegales de distintas regiones, que hace algunos años daba soporte a un grupo no desestimable de 100 personas. Se trata de una población que en su mayoría se dedica al trabajo sexual, labor que Camille Cabral reivindica, demandando al Estado estatus laboral y profesional para la misma. Ha apoyado a grupos de prostitutas a organizarse, entre ellos el grupo Las Putas y ha colaborado con la organización de la Marcha del Orgullo Puta, “Pute Prides”. Es también una luchadora en contra del tráfico de personas y el proxenetismo.
Ha incursionado en la política francesa, siendo la primera transexual elegida para un cargo público, por el periodo que va del 2001 al 2008, pero en el 2006 fue retirada de su cargo por instancias del partido Los Verdes (Les Verts, partido ecologista francés), con el cual había llegado al cargo. Ella postuló de manera independiente en el 2007, pero sólo logró un porcentaje mínimo de los votos.
